During the Beijing Branch of the 2015 National Science Popularization Day as well as the 5th Beijing Science Festival, 65 overseas representatives participated in the on-the-spot interactive exhibitions, scientific experiment show, Beijing International Science Festival Round-table Conference, theme reception etc; they also brought at 65 scientific and technological interactive programs. They were the delegate from 37 science & technology organizations of Macau area, Taiwan area, 21 foreign countries including Australia, Brazil, Demark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, UK, and USA, and 3 international science & technology organizations including the International Science and Technology Dissemination Committee，the European Science Events Association (EUSEA), the European Network of Science Centers and Museums (ECSITE). More than 50 overseas science interactive programs attended the Science Festival.
On September 18, the 65 overseas representatives attended the Theme Reception “Common Friendship and Further Cooperation”. Tian Wen the vice chairman of Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST)， Zou Junxin the deputy Chairman of the Beijing Science and Education Development Foundation, and the directors of the relevant departments and enterprises of BAST attended the reception. Tian Wen, on behalf of BAST, delivered a speech. He expressed the welcome and introduced the Beijing Science Festival of this year; he said that Beijing, as the international exchange center and science & technology innovation center of China, was embracing friends all over the world with increasingly tolerant and open attitude. He hoped that all the overseas participants would fully display their programs, amply communicate, boost friendship, and strengthen cooperation. Ms Annette the CEO of City2Science and the representative of EUSEA, on behalf of all the overseas participants, made a address. She said that the core factors of an excellent science festival were opening, responsibility, and collaborative creation of knowledge; accordingly, the Beijing Science Festival had definitely owned those factors, and it had established a barrier-free platform of sharing, communication, and cooperation for the science & technology organization of different countries and cultures. As the representative of all the overseas participants, she expressed thankfulness towards BAST’s invitation and considerate arrangements; she also wished that the relevant science & technology units all over the world would cooperate with BAST to foster the spirit of opening, responsibility, collaborative creation of knowledge, and to innovate the theory and methods of science dissemination.
On September 20, the representatives of 27 science festival organizing units from 18 countries and areas took part in the 3rd Beijing International Science Festival Round-table Conference with the theme of “Science Popularization New Silk Road”. The participants were from the 14 countries geographically related to “the Belt and Road” initiative and the BRICS—Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. 9 science & technology organizations such as the India National Council of Science Museums signed the MOU, which was a multilateral MOU signed by 24 science & technology organizations of 20 countries since 2013. Then, the representatives of 5 units including the German Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, China Research Institute for Science Popularization, BAST etc participated the Commence Ceremony of the “NUCLEUS”, one of the programs of the HORIZON2020.
Besides, the overseas delegates participated in the activities of the Beijing Branch of the National Science Popularization Day, visited and communicated with the Clean Energy Exhibition Center of the Hanergy Co., LTD, and the Zhongguancun INNO Way. These manifold contents such as the special conferences, theme activities, science show etc. further improved the overseas delegates’ acquaintance with the situation of the Capital’s public science popularization and the internationalization of BAST’s science popularization, and also promote the their wide cooperation with the Beijing Science Popularization Resources Alliance (BSPRA). These exchanges and communications will further promote the construction of the international science popularization resources allies mainly composed of the science & technology organizations of the occidental countries, neighboring countries, and the countries geographically related to “the Belt and Road” initiative, so as to improve the connection between the BSPRA and the overseas science popularization resources, and to organize more concrete and pragmatic bilateral, multilateral cooperation.
