An international master's program on integrated dryland management 
has been launched recently at the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental & 
Engineering Research Institute (CAREERI) of CAS. Five students from 
Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, India and China are now studying in the program at 
CAREERI in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province.

    Under the joint sponsorship of the United Nations University, the 
Institut des Regions Arides in Tunisia, CAREERI, and the Institut National 
Agronomique de Tunisie in Tunisia, the objective of the program to enhance 
the capacity of developing countries to manage their dryland resources. It 
is intended to provide young professionals and scientists an international 
perspective on resource management approaches in drylands. Students enrolled 
in the program will attend courses for one semester each in Tunisia and 
China, and complete a research project in their home country. The program 
is jointly offered by the four partner institutions as an internationally 
accepted degree.
