Former Japanese minister of science serves as IPM advisor

             Dr. Akito Arima receives the letter of engagement 
from IPM Director Mu Rongping.


A ceremony was held on Sept 19 in Beijing to engage Dr. Akito Arima, 
former Minister of Education and Science of Japan and former President 
of the University of Tokyo, as an advisor of the CAS Institute of Policy 
and Management (IPM). The letter of engagement was conferred by Prof. 
Mu Rongping, IPM director.
    Dr. Akito Arima was glad to accept the offer, and spoke highly of the 
progress achieved by IPM over the past two decades. He believes there 
is a broad perspective in the cooperation and exchanges between China 
and Japan in the fields of science and technology, and S&T policy research 
in particular
