Under auspices of the International Glaciological Society, the
International Symposium on High-elevation Glaciers and Climate Records
opened on Sept. 5 in Lanzhou, capital of northeast China's Gansu Province.
Co-sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, CAS and
China Meteorological Administration, the four-day meeting has brought
together about more than 100 glacialists from 10 or so countries to share
their up-to-date advances in the field.
Glacial variations, snow cover and glacial records are very important
issues in the study of climatic changes, water resources and disasters in
high-elevation regions. This symposium will focus on glacier variations,
processes and their consequences, snow cover and related processes, and
climate records from glaciers.
