Jointly organized by the Chinese Society for the History of Science
and Technology and the CAS Institute for the History of Natural Science
(IHNS), the 22nd International Congress of History of Science will take
place in Beijing during July 24 to 30.
Under the theme of "Globalization and Diversity", the organizers of
the congress believe that diffusion of science and technology between
different cultures will offer the greatest and most promising prospects
for the future advance of human civilization.
According to Prof. Liu Dun, president of local organizing committee
of the conference and IHNS director, various activities has been arranged.
There will be specially invited lectures given by professors from home
and abroad, including Nobel Prize winner Prof. C. C. Yang, more than 60
symposia organized by world renowned scholars and poster displays intended
for exchanges among the participants and those who cannot manage to attend
the Congress.
Apart from the academic activities, there are also public lectures and
business meetings, including such topics as "science during the times of
the French King Louis XIV and Chinese Emperor Kangxi" and "innovation in
new subjects contributed by women scientists". And for the first time, an
award will be presented to outstanding young scientists in the field.
China has a long history of scientific development, says Prof. Ke
Jun, a prestigious Chinese expert in history of science and technology,
the Congress is a good opportunity for China to bring forth its
contributions in the field to the world as well as boost the development
of this discipline in China
